Early Detection Saved Her – A Journey of Awareness and Strength
Dr. Aban Daver, a psychiatrist and healthcare professional based in Hyderabad, was diagnosed with an early stage of breast cancer (DCIS) at the age of 66. Despite having no noticeable symptoms, her diagnosis came through a routine screening conducted as part of a breast cancer awareness initiative.
Encouraged to participate in a screening drive led by Dr. Raghu Ram through the Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation, Dr. Aban underwent a mammogram that detected suspicious calcifications in her breast. Further evaluation confirmed an early-stage cancer, highlighting the critical importance of timely screening.
Under the expert care of Dr. Raghu Ram at KIMS Hospitals, she underwent a wire-guided lumpectomy (breast-conserving surgery) to remove the affected tissue. As the cancer was detected at a very early stage, she did not require chemotherapy or radiotherapy, making her recovery smoother and less physically demanding.
Despite the emotional uncertainty following the diagnosis, Dr. Aban chose to remain calm and continued her daily routine soon after surgery. With her strong medical background and practical mindset, she focused on staying active and positive throughout the process.
Her family, especially her daughter, provided support during this time, helping her navigate the diagnosis and treatment decisions. She also credits early detection and timely medical intervention as the key factors that enabled her to return quickly to a normal life.
Today, Dr. Aban continues to lead an active and fulfilling life, managing her nursing home and spending time with her family. She strongly advocates for regular screening, emphasizing that early detection can save lives and prevent more aggressive treatments.
