Positivity and Strength – A Doctor’s Journey Through Breast Cancer
Dr. Manimala Rao, a distinguished anaesthesiologist with over five decades of experience, was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 67. Despite her vast medical knowledge and exposure to critical illnesses, she approached her diagnosis with calmness, positivity, and pragmatism.
After discovering an abnormality in her breast, she consulted Dr. Raghu Ram at KIMS-USHALAKSHMI Centre for Breast Diseases. Following detailed evaluation and confirmation of early-stage breast cancer, she was counselled about treatment options, including breast-conserving surgery. However, she chose to undergo a mastectomy based on her personal preference.
Under the expert care of Dr. Raghu Ram and his team, her surgery was successfully completed, and her recovery was smooth. Since the cancer was detected early and had not spread to the lymph nodes, she did not require chemotherapy and was treated with hormone therapy.
Dr. Rao resumed her normal routine soon after surgery and continued her professional work with renewed strength. Her journey was supported by her family, especially her husband and daughter, who stood by her throughout the treatment and recovery process.
Today, more than a decade later, Dr. Manimala Rao continues to lead an active and fulfilling life. She strongly advocates for early detection through regular screenings and emphasizes the importance of maintaining a positive mindset while facing any health challenge.
Her story is a powerful reminder that early diagnosis, the right medical care, and a positive attitude can lead to successful outcomes—even in the face of cancer.
